Material placed around an anode to lower its resistance to the surrounding soil and keep it working consistently. ICCP anodes are typically surrounded by coke breeze. Off-the-shelf magnesium anodes ship in a mix of about 75% gypsum, 20% bentonite and 5% sodium sulfate, which holds moisture around the anode.
